hey didja ever hear the one about…

…yea, that one about the guy with the scalpel that caused his patient to glitch?!

I tried. I tried. I tried to just answer his question about pain and discomfort. My mother would’ve just answered. And like I said…I tried. But my brain just froze, dear readers…paralyzed by the bleeding ears that occurred when I heard…

“Ok, is that more better?”

Ummm…excuse me, what…give me a minute…no, might need two…is it hot in here…furtive glances around the room while I tried to make sense of life…deep breaths…come back to reality…say something…

“Yes, that’s better. Thank you.”

That’s when I saw him…when I saw it…the honorable man that took those vows almost 29 years ago got that smirk on his face….HIS smirk. If you know him at all, you’ve seen this smirk…most likely, at your expense. I stared him down, slowly shaking my head as if to say…don’t. you. dare. Oh, he dared. The one to whom I pledged all my earthly days, let out a chuckle. Not a silent giggle, mind you…a chuckle that drew the attention of the 5 medical personnel in the room. That’s bad enough, but how ‘bout a little mystery, REV?!!? But he just couldn’t help himself…he threw me FULLY under the bus…and then went and hopped behind the wheel and ran me over himself!

“Well, now she’s correcting your grammar! Just couldn’t help yourself, could you?”…to the scalpel-toting doc who controls my life for the foreseeable future!! The “til death do us part” bit is sounding off in my brain. At least it distracted me from the grammar debacle?!?

SO…speaking of distractions…I shared all that to keep myself distracted this morning as I await surgery #2. :)

Swelling is down. The leg doesn’t look nearly as nasty as I’d anticipated. The show must go on! He’s going to make a decent incision on the inside of the right leg and a smaller one on the outside. There will be internal hardware/fixators, but the external will be gone. Praise. He will also go in with a scope/camera to remove a bone fragment that chipped off and is j-chillin’ in there. ALSO, NO CAST! He doesn’t like them and wants me to be able to start bending my ankle asap to help with rehab. So once the open wounds have healed, it’ll be time for a shower. And all the people said…amen.

More exciting news…it sounds like I will be allowed to put more weight on the booted left leg…using a walker, of course…but more than just spot transfers. It doesn’t sound like too long before I’ll even be able to use a scooter…which will significantly increase mobility. Driving is still quite a long way off, but the sun is shining on continued ministry and family outtings. I’m so very thankful for that. Would still appreciate the continued prayers, including that I’ll still be able to come back home tonight after surgery!

One last chuckle for the road…when this sweet little nurse asked:

“So is this your first broken bone?”

You’re welcome.
